Virtual Career Camp ’20 was an initiative by EKYA CMR to unveil the vast canvas of career opportunities that exist for students besides the ancient offerings. This was in the endeavour to establish arenas that guide us during our current dynamic and everchanging economy. Ms. Simran Gotla, our guest speaker, was one such inspirational individual who specializes in diversity of dance forms. She walked us through her outstanding professional journey from the SHIAMAK DAVAR’S Dance Company to
training several Bollywood beginners. She is an alumnus of CMR who has completed the Bokwa and Zumba fitness instructor certifications; furthermore, she has been an instructor of various dance forms before graduating with a diploma in dance from LASALLE College of The Arts, Singapore, with specialism in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz and Urban dance. Be it Bharatanatyam, Salsa, Hip-Hop, Zumba or Afro-Jazz, Simran has
scaled it all.

For those speculating on how dance could even be a career path and longing to pursue one, Simran meticulously emphasized availability of numerous career options in the field of dancing such as Fitness Trainer, Dance Therapist, Dance Critique, Higher Education Lecturer (Teach Dance Science and Dance History) etc.

Also, when asked about the scope of Indian Classical Dancing as a profession in the modern era, Simran sounded immensely confident about the longevity of this form of art in India as many of us still continue to stay traditional at heart and take enormous pride in preserving our rich culture; moreover, this is one art that still commands enormous popularity and respect amongst the tourists who often visit India.

To conclude, while many of us may think that becoming Engineers, Doctors, Pilots etc is the way ahead in building a great career, Simran has inspired us to follow our passion by proving that artists too can make it big with their absolute creativity and determination to make a difference.
