Our student Jhanvi Lamba secured Grade A at the 53rd Annual Intercollegiate Contest in speaking on science subjects. Jhanvi spoke on upcoming, cutting edge technology, ‘Cloud Computing.’ Here is a blog by Jhanvi about her entire experience of participating in the contest.

The Bangalore Science Forum has been for the last three decades relentlessly promoted in the city through lectures and discussion. Weekly presentations are given by luminaries from various disciplines, delivering lectures on a diverse range of topics. This Forum takes place at the National College in Basavangudi, and the talks that are delivered expose students to various concepts in science, helping them gain knowledge in their field of interest. It is an opportunity to meet some great Indian scientists in person, and hearing them explain complex subjects at an extremely approachable level inspires students to pursue science as a career. The objective of the forum is to encourage scientific temper in students and to give them a platform to interact with scientists.

National College organised the 53rd Bangalore Science Forum by inviting students from various colleges and had a large turn up of avid participants. Students could choose any science-related subject and theme of interest they wanted and give a presentation on it.

I had selected Computer Science and gave a speech on Cloud Computing. The term ‘Cloud Computing’ is generally used to describe data centres available to many users over the Internet. Presenting this upcoming, cutting edge technology helped me gain a factual and theoretical understanding of it.

This competition was at Inter-College level, and it was the first time I had ever participated at such a platform. I had to overcome my trepidation and fears and present my topic of choice before the judges and the other students. I realized that it just required some assertiveness and composure. With the support and guidance of my parents, teachers and our principal, Anitha ma’am, I was able to accomplish this task. I received a certificate and a prize coupon for books. Overall, it was a great learning experience that enlightened me on various new concepts, and it really helped build up my confidence.
